Another Fire at Fernald

Waltham Fire responded to a report of a fire at the Fernald chapel building on Friday night around 7:45 p.m.
Because the building was boarded up, it took extra time to access the fire. News photographer Peter Lobo said firefighters brought the smoky blaze under control by 9:00 p.m.
The state fire marshal was summoned to investigate.

This is the second fire at the sprawling Fernald property in recent months and the latest in a series of fires since the city acquired the 190-acre property in 2014.
An arson fire at the Administration Building on December 2 led state fire officials to offer a reward for any information.

Fernald is closed to the public and monitored by security cameras, but trespassers continue to vandalize and set fire to the decrepit buildings.
