A Waltham educators’ Facebook group will donate 1,000 masks to Waltham schoolchildren after raising $5,000 online.
Waltham Together has sponsored various outreach efforts among local non-profits to assist residents affected by the coronavirus.
The Facebook group started with high school educators and eventually spread to the entire WPS community.
The mask effort invited donors to spend $5 on masks through a third-party virtual store, which was open through August 16.
Waltham Together raised $5,000 for 1,000 masks, according to Waltham Together coordinator and WHS educator Emilie Perna. There are roughly 6,000 students enrolled in the district.
Plympton Elementary assistant principal Amanda Brennan played a key role in driving the mask fundraising effort.
Brennan said the masks, with “Waltham Together” text printed on them, arrived last week and are ready for distribution right in time for the start of school.
She added that she received some additional interest in buying these masks. Stay tuned for more details.
