Last week the Waltham city council approved a mayoral request for $1.3 million to renovate two Waltham parks with dated play structures.

They are McKenna Playground off Elm Street in Ward 9 and Logan Park on Woerd Avenue on the Island in Ward 8.

Both park projects were designed with community input, and existing trees will be preserved as much as possible.

Logan Park will have an entirely new playground installed as well as a new central path for wheelchairs, strollers, bikes and scooters.

“We created play space for everyone and made the park more inclusive,” said Cathyann Harris, the Ward 8 city councilor. “There’s truly something here for every age.”

McKenna Playground will also have new play structures installed as well as new basketball courts and other improvements.

“I’m very pleased that this was designed based on residents’ input, including a bicycle rack, and that all existing trees on the site will be saved,” said Ward 9 city councilor Robert Logan.

Waltham’s Recreation Department Director Kim Hebert said construction on both will begin later this fall.

Logan and McKenna are the latest in a long list of public and school park improvement projects carried out under Waltham mayor Jeannette McCarthy.

Nearly every park in the city has been redesigned and improved.
